Beyond the Pageant
The queer transmasc college student’s decision to enter the campus Miss Intramurals pageant seems counterintuitive. It wasn’t about winning a title or being crowned queen; it was about self-discovery and acceptance. She wanted to understand if this experience would be a stepping stone towards embracing her true identity or merely a farewell to the person she once knew.
Exploring Identity
As she navigated the pageant’s world, she encountered a diverse cast of characters, each with their own stories and struggles. Some were confident and unapologetic, while others hid behind masks of perfection. The student found solace in the quiet moments, when she could reflect on her journey and confront the uncertainty that had been lingering within.
- The pageant’s rules and expectations were a far cry from her own experiences as a transmasc individual.
- She began to realize that the pageant was not just about beauty but also about identity, self-acceptance, and the search for one’s true voice.
- The student discovered that being part of this world forced her to confront her own biases and assumptions, as well as those of others around her.
